Testing .... Testing ... Please for the love of puppies.... I hope I finally have this figured out!

(Meet Beau and Daisy when they were sweet innocent puppies!  Now they are super-hyper-jumping bean-dogs!  But they are my babies!)

  1. Teaching Business-All fun and Games?

I am certain that Game-based learning technology can be utilized in Adult Basic Education (ABE) learning environment. This blog gives some valuable information on adult game players. The statistics show that there are a great number of adult game players. The blog states that games keeps us entertained from an early ages to senior ages. Games help to improve many skills and keep our brains active (Smith, 2013).

Some of these Adults may be functionally illiterate and read on a 5th grade level. The nation statistics for literacy in our Nation (National Institute for Literacy, 2007) show the following statistics:

    The Nation
    • In a study of literacy among 20 ‘high income’ countries; US ranked 12th
    • Illiteracy has become such a serious problem in our country that 44 million adults are now unable to read a simple story to their children
    • 50% of adults cannot read a book written at an eighth grade level
    • 45 million are functionally illiterate and read below a 5th grade level
    • 44% of the American adults do not read a book in a year
    • 6 out of 10 households do not buy a single book in a year

(Source: National Institute for Literacy, National Center for Adult
Literacy, The Literacy Company, U.S. Census Bureau, 2007).

Game-based learning would be beneficial in improving the literacy level of adults. Video games would be my choice in teaching in ABE classes. The students could make a video showing what type of career they would like to have after their educational skills are higher. A video showing individuals in different career could enhance their learning and motivation.
